1 Corinthians 10:31
Originally from Eastern Colorado, Abby began taking reining lessons from Drake Johnson at the age of nine and immediately became hooked on the sport. It wasn’t until she turned seventeen that she had saved up enough money to purchase her first reining horse and pay the way to her first NRHA event. Lengel trained her own non-pro horses under the guidance of Drake.
In the non-pro divisions, she accumulated earnings of over $72,000 before becoming an open rider in 2014. Abby began working for Casey Deary on January 6th, 2014 and worked on the Deary ranch for five years before going out on her own on January 2019.
2019 was a year of making dreams come true for Lengel. She was invited to participate as a wild card in The Run for a Million and finished 6th place on Gotta Twist It Up. She was a NRBC level 4 open finalist on Gotta Twist It Up, and was a level 4 open futurity finalist with Makendiamonds, having only one horse available to show in each open event. Gotta Twist it Up and Abby went on to star in The Last Cowboy, a TV show on Paramount that showcased multiple riders in the industry competing in The Run for a Million.
Since then, Abby has earned the following career highlights:
She is beyond excited and grateful for the horses and success that she has had up to this point, but the future looks even better.
One of her major goals is to be a million dollar rider and a level 4 Open Finalist in every major event of 2023. Her biggest goal is to be the first woman ever to win the NRHA Futurity. She is considered a role model by everyone, but especially by women and young girls. Her success and hard work has helped to break the glass ceiling of the reining industry.
“I am truly so blessed to have so many great people that believe in me and want to do everything they can to help me become a better rider, trainer, and person.”
Abby completed her associates degrees at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY and finished up with a Bachelors in Equine Industry and Business from West Texas A&M University.
“I thank God for giving me this great passion for horses, and I know that He has a plan for me.”
